FallenHeroesUSA.org Charity Poker Tournament This Sunday

You can help out a good cause this weekend by playing in the FallenHeroesUSA.org Charity Poker tournament hosted on Full Tilt Poker. It’s just a $10 buyin with half of the proceeds going to the prize pool and the other half going directly to support the charity. The charity is run by Scott Diamond (@DeputySD) and it’s main purpose is to help the families of police officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their communities.

About Fallen Heroes USA

FallenHeroesUSA.org was established to assist the families of Law Enforcement Officers who have given their lives serving their communities in the United States. We are a Non-Profit Foundation and no one affiliated receives any compensation for their time and effort.

Our goal is to be able to help the families and memorialize the Officers by posting their pictures on our Heroes page, so no one ever forgets them and the sacrifice they have made for us.

Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon Running NOW

The Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon is underway and will go through midnight tomorrow. With all due respect to my second favorite charity (PreventCancer.org), the Jimmy Fund will always be my favorite and is a place I will always find time and ways to donate.

Last year, the Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon raised $4.5 million bringing the total since 2002 to $21 million in donations during this annual event. The goal this year is to raise $5 million dollars that will be used in the fight against cancer. Since 1948 the Jimmy Fund has supported the fight against cancer in children and adults at Bostons Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

You can listen live to the telethon over at WEEI.com. You can donate online, or text “KCANCER” to 20222 to donate $10.

Please join me today or tomorrow in making a contribution to this great charity and even greater cause. No amount is too small to give. A quote from my favorite and most often referenced Jimmy Fund video:

“You really don’t have to donate that much, you just gotta give, a little. A little in abundance, is alot.”

My Tear-Jerker of the Day

Just heard that a good friend of mine, Paul Ellis (@coolwhipflea), lost a close family friend to cancer early this morning. His name was Gabriel. The worst part, he was just 3 weeks shy of his 8th birthday. You can make a donation directly to Caring Bridge in tribute to Gabriel.

F*ck Cancer.

While we are on the topic, here is my favorite video to get you in the charitable mood:

My charity of choice to assist in the fight against cancer is The Jimmy Fund. Consider making a donation. Or please make a donation to your charity of choice.

“You really don’t have to donate that much, you just gotta give, a little. A little in abundance, is alot.”

All I Want for Christmas in 2009…

All I Want for Christmas in 2009 is for YOU to consider making a donation to a charitable foundation. Give what ever you can, $1, $5, $10, etc. There is no such thing as a donation “too small”.

Here is a list of my favorite charities to get you thinking:

Jimmy Fund

Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has supported the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world.

PreventCancer.org and Bad Beat on Cancer

The Prevent Cancer Foundation empowers people to prevent cancer. We envision a future where cancer incidence and mortality will be significantly reduced through preventive measures….The mission of the Prevent Cancer Foundation (formerly the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation) is the prevention and early detection of cancer through research, education and community outreach to all populations, including children and the underserved.

St. Jude Children’s Hospital

St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. With research and patient care under one roof, St. Jude is where some of today’s most gifted researchers are able to do science more quickly.

MSPCA

The MSPCA-Angell is a national and international leader in animal protection and veterinary medicine and provides direct hands-on care for thousands of animals each year. Founded in 1868, we are the second-oldest humane society in the United States. Our services include animal protection and adoption, advocacy, humane education, law enforcement and world-class veterinary care.
